February 9, 2009... This weekend was full of adventure for me and I did wonderfully! I went with my foster mother for a long car ride so she could run errands - I sat in the back of the car and slept the whole time on a big, fuzzy dog bed. It felt nice to have the breeze coming through the windows and the warm sunshine and I napped away the day! Then we went to a park that was full of kids, dogs, and adults playing frisbee and having picnics. A lot of people wanted to say hello to me and I enjoyed all of the attention. I like to wag my tail at children - they seem to really enjoy me because I am so calm and behaved with them. I am really looking forward to my next outing!
January 31, 2009... This little gem may be tiny but she sure is precious! Ruby is a tiny little girl weighing about 40 pounds and is about 2 years old. Her brindle coat is super soft - especially her ears and she loves to have them scratched! She could use to put on a few pounds and has a healthy appetite so we expect her to be looking good in no time.
She has settled into her new foster home with ease starting with the car ride home - she slept the entire time! She has taken easily to her crate and spends her time in there when her foster family is not home. When they are around she loves to be at their side and follows them around the house. Ruby does like to jump when she first gets out of her crate but her foster family is working hard to break her out of this habit. At night she cant wait to put her self to sleep in the plush dog bed in the bedroom and sleeps tight until the morning. Ruby knows how to sit and walks well on a leash. She gets along well with the male Boxer in her home as well as the cat. She is very food motivated and so it should be easy to teach all sorts of new manners.
Ruby is so easy going that her foster mom is going to bring her to her office next week to visit all the other dog lovers who work
there. Given her calm demeanor she may just be the perfect office dog! This sweetheart loves nothing more than to get pet by her humans and would do well in a home with people who enjoy the constant companionship of a loving and curious little girl.
January 29, 2009... We love Ruby - She is a real sweetheart!! We are working on fattening her up before she starts her heartworm treatment. She is a pretty, petite girl who will soon be ready for her forever home!!
December 2, 2008... Ruby was scared to come into the house. She does not jump on furniture but does stand up and put her front paws on countertops, and you! We put her on the bed and she froze. She could not even get down. All new to her. Mattie (our boxer) was not amused with having to share her sanctuary but as I said, they are getting adjusted to her. We put her in the crate with a treat. That is new too. She wines a little and scratches to get out but settles down shortly there after. She is just a doll, very sweet, very active, very affectionate. Our dogs accepted her in with no problem. She's a little underweight, and they recommended getting some weight on her before treating the heartworms.
December 1, 2008... We picked up Ruby today. She is a doll. She is skinny and tiny too. Looks like a toy boxer....
Anyway, she is reluctant to enter the house. It takes some coaxing on our part to get her in. She is establishing her spot in our girl pecking order. There are three of them now. The boy, Nico, is the one we thought we would have to watch. Not so, unless he hears the girls growling at each other. In he rushes to be the "get along" police. And order is restored. She eats well but gets distracted during her meal. She definitely wants to be around humans. She will follow us around the house. She stands on her back legs as if to beg but does not jump on you. Only stands up against you. Sitting in a lap and riding in a car are new things to her. She is SO cute!! She looks young 1 - 1 1/2 y/o. Face looks younger than that. Doesn't know toys or treats.... yet.
