JINSI

JINSI

Background
This adorable white boxer mix joined CBR in February 2007.
She was picked up as a stray by a shelter in South Carolina.
In Japanese, Jinsi means "full of life."
We believe she is about 3 years old.

Health
She is heartworm negative, micro-chipped, current on her shots, and spayed.
Jinsi has sensitive skin and will develop a rash if her collar is too tight.  A halter-type collar addresses this issue.
She has some scars on her front legs but this has not affected her love of people or her spirit.

Behavior
She is a happy, happy-go-lucky girl, who will play fetch and likes to be playful.
She loves meeting people and will show her belly to anyone who may be interested giving her a belly rub.
When she wants to go outside, she nudges to the chimes hanging from the doorknob.
She quietly enters her crate.
She knows many commands, including ‘sit, down, no, drop it, come, wait, stay, and okay.’
She is an alpha dog. As an alpha, she wants to establish herself as the leader.   She needs to be with a family who understand how to                     establish and maintain the humans in the alpha role.   Her permanent family either should not have other pets or have male dogs that are                submissive and will let Jinsi be the pack leader.
Jinsi loves children but, because of her rough play style, should join a family with children who are no longer infants.

Jinsi is looking forward to 2009 – her wishes for the new year are to:
1.be adopted by a family that will shower her with love, respect, and kisses;
2.have daily belly-rub sessions; and
3.feel safe.

July – December 2008...  Jinsi frequently accompanied her foster mom to work and also to the coast; she easily made many friends.  She is a danger to herself with the speed that her tail is wagging when she passes anyone on the sidewalk and requests belly rubs of everyone.  She was very popular with the children on Halloween although she was very confused about why no one would come into the house and rub her belly.  Jinsi recovered from her heartworm treatment and she was micro-chipped.  She attended weekly dog obedience/socialization classes and had frequent sessions on a non-electric doggie treadmill to help burn off some energy and retain her svelte figure.

January – June 2008... At her annual exam, we learned that Jinsi was heartworm positive.  She underwent heartworm treatment and staff at the vet clinic fell in love with her. The vet reported that Jinsi was so calm while receiving the rather uncomfortable injections in her lower back area; he stated that they often have to sedate the animals but that Jinsi just sat there calmly while they tended to her.  After weeks of being on minimal exercise, she is definitely ready to run around the backyard and play with Rascal and the neighboring dog ASAP.

July – December  2007... For Halloween Jinsi was dressed as herself --- an adorable boxer mix searching for a permanent family.  Rascal became grateful that she has learned to open the screen door from the backyard for him be remaining inside and waiting for him to come on the deck.  Jinsi and Rascal have become the best of friends and often sleep side-by-side.  In July, the house/dog sitter fell in love with Jinsi and her quirky antics.  She concurred that Jinsi will thrive in a home with an active family who is familiar with the typical personality of a boxer and knows to set limits and be patient.  Jinsi loves children but, because of her rough play style, should join a family with children who are no longer infants.

February – June 2007... In May, Jinsi represented CBR at the Granville County Dog Event where she was patient with all the children and adults who wanted to meet her.  She is more obedient -  she knows that I exit the house first; to “sit” for her food to be provided; “wait” until I give the “okay” command for her to jump out of the car; and to sit by the front door for it to open.  Jinsi is better at reading the signals of dogs she meets but is still cautious. Her happiness is contagious and her antics, such as chasing her tail and throwing a ball or pull toy for herself to fetch, are entertaining.   In late March, Jinsi moved to Durham and saw a new veterinarian who estimated her to be under two years old. In early March, Jinsi went to PetSmart where she was very friendly with everyone, especially children.  On walks, she was a little suspicious of people coming down the path, but friendly to those who stopped and petted her.  She was very happy and friendly at the vet’s and at the kennel where they thought she was great.  She still does not have any hair under her neck which may be been caused by parasites or her previous treatment or collar.  In February, Jinsi was picked up as a stray by a shelter in SC and joined CBR.  The veterinarian estimated her to be 3-4 yrs old and determined she is heartworm negative.  In Japanese, her name means "full of life."   Jinsi is a loving, playful dog who has been great with my kids, loves belly rubs, and has adjusted quickly to our routine.  Jinsi does have some obvious scars, but she definitely has not let it ruin her spirit!
