HOLLY
April 12, 2009...  Holly's doing great, she's finally gaining some weight and beginning to fill out.  I think I was overly cautious and underfed her because she had a "sensitive" stomach.  But, there's no sign of that now, she eats the same as the other dogs and doesn't need a special diet.
She does best with dry food, slurping up canned food with that long tongue is time consuming and she can't get the bowl clean. She's fun to watch as she runs and plays....she is so light on her feet it looks like she's bouncing from spot to spot in the backyard!

February 25, 2009...  How can you resist this face ?  She may look a little different than alot of dogs, but that just adds to Holly's charm.  Everything else about her is ALL boxer.  She's a flashy brindle with beautiful natural ears, her nub is longer, I call it the "show-cut" which seems to be popular with breeders now.  She's beautiful running across the yard with the others...

She sits still in the car and loves to ride, she'll wait patiently while I run into the bank or post office or the grocery store.

February 5, 2009...  Holly is the most adorable sweet girl. She feels so much better, loves a soft chewy toy, is learning to play with TUG and enjoys snuggling with the others on these frigid February days.  She's still very thin, but she's certainly at the right place to get fattened up.  She doesn't jump up on people, enjoys chasing squirrels, and is mesmerized by the canaries singing.  She's a beautiful flashy brindle and with her sweet personality should do well with children, all the dogs are her buddies.
With "le grande langue", people stop in their tracks to see her.  It give us the opportunity to stress the importance of rescue.
She will be at Petsmart on Valentine's Day in Charlotte, we'll post the location and time soon.

HOLLY (aka Miss Kitty)

Background
This beautiful brindle joined CBR in December.
She was given to the dog pound by her “owner” who was also a breeder.
We believe she is about 3 years old.

Health
She is heartworm negative, current on her shots, and spayed.
She was born with one side of her jaw shorter than the other.  Her tongue hangs outside her mouth on the side with the                    shorter jawbone.   She rolls her tongue into her mouth when she is playing – but hangs outside when she sleeps and is             relaxed.
The teeth that irritated the top and bottom of her tongue have been removed.  She is much more comfortable.
She is thin.  She has a sensitive stomach but responds well to a bland diet and minimal treats.

Behavior
She is very feline in the way she stretches after a nap, scratches herself /walks alongside the furniture, and curls into a ball             to sleep and purrs (snores) when sleeping.  She responds very well to being called “Miss Kitty” and seems to like this                     name.
She loves snuggling near the feet of people in the house but will ring the door chimes to indicate she needs to go outside.             After doing her business, she runs back inside to return to be near the humans.
She does very well at daycare; she plays well with other dogs.
She is laid back, relaxed, sweet, friendly, a snuggler.
She eats and drinks normally – but makes a bit of a mess.  Her fur brother loves to come in behind her and clean up her                  bowl and her face. Her kisses sometimes miss their mark but her intention is very clear.
She is anxious when left in the crate but will eventually settle down and lay on the bedding.
She loves to go for rides in the car.
She is learning her commands and is becoming more relaxed in her crate.

She is looking forward to 2009 – her wishes for the new year are to:
1.be adopted by a family that will shower her with love, respect, and kisses;
2.gain about six pounds; and
3.feel safe.

December 18, 2008… Holly spent the day at the health clinic.  The veterinarian removed the teeth that were irritating the top and bottom of her tongue and two teeth that were infected.  She is recovering nicely and is ready for her new permanent home.

December 16, 2008...  Holly saw a veterinarian that specializes in dental issues and had her first day in daycare.

She is heartworm negative and that she has been spayed.  We think she is about three years old.  She needs to gain about 10 pounds and there is a need to learn more about the reasons for her extended tongue which becomes very chapped and dry.   The vet confirmed she has full feeling in her mouth and tongue.  He found no visible history of physical abuse.

During this visit the vet took photographs of her mouth which he emailed to colleagues along with a request for second opinions.  The general consensus was that Holly has a congenital malformation of the jaw.  The different length of her jawbones has caused her tongue to protrude from the side of her mouth.  This problem has been present for so long that her tongue caused her teeth to come in at all angles – including towards the inside of her mouth.  Holly is in constant discomfort and pain which would be eased by having some teeth removed – especially those that rub against the tongue and those that are growing into her mouth.  This defect caused her tongue to lengthen because it is almost always hanging outside her mouth.

From her first day at school we learned that Holly is very friendly with other dogs.  She keeps her tongue in her mouth for 5-10 minute periods when she is playing and she uses her front paws to initiate play and while playing.  Holly needs to learn to demonstrate that she needs to go outside – and teach this to the folks at school and at home.

December 6, 2008...  This BEAUTIFUL girl is Holly!  She is one of the prettiest boxers I have seen.  And she is just so sweet!!  Her tongue does hang out pretty much all of the time.  The vet thinks that she likely had an injury to her jaw which caused her tongue to hang out.  It doesn't take away from how pretty she is and it hasn't slowed her down!! She is a happy girl with a super boxer wiggle.  She tries to give kisses, but with that tongue doesn't always hit her target!!!  She gets along well with other dogs and loves people!  She hasn't had a lot of training but tries very hard to please and will likely be a quick learner!  We are working on crate training.  She has been a bit nervous in her crate but hopefully in time she'll understand that she is safe there and someone will always come home for her!  She is a good girl and we are really looking forward to getting to know her!!
