March 16, 2009 ... Benson and his foster family all survived a week of crate confinement after he was neutered week before last. He did really well and has healed completely. Benson is growing and healthy. He is learning commands and becoming less mouthy. He is ok with children but hasn't figured out the difference between children and dogs. We think he'll do best with children no younger than 6 or 7 years old, at least until he has grown up. Benson is entirely too interested in cats, and would do best in a home without cats.
Benson's life consists of playing as many hours per day as possible with his two fur siblings. They wrestle, run, play smackdown, and play with toys. Benson enjoys mealtime and shows no food aggression. He sleeps in his crate every night without complaint. He is extremely attentive and eager to please, which makes training easy. At this point Benson appears to have figured out housetraining, with no accidents in about a week.
This young boy continues to be extremely sweet, while at the same time a very high energy boxer.
February 24, 2009... Benson is an awesome puppy who was pulled from the shelter last Friday. The vet thinks he's between 4 and 6 months old. He's HW negative and in good health. He needs to be neutered. Like any 5 month old boxer puppy, Benson has lots of energy. He's "mouthy" but I think he'd never been taught any different. In three days he's gotten much better. He's smart and understands when you tell him no. Benson knows how to sit and gets more consistent with it every day. We ask him to sit before he gets to do anything so he gets lots of practice. Benson gets along well with his foster fur siblings. They run loops in the yard and wrestle. We go for a long walk every day and Benson loves that . He's met most of our neighbor friends and is very polite when greeting people. We're working on housetraining and Benson is doing well. As long as we make sure he gets outside regularly he does fine. Benson sleeps in his crate every night. He needs a gentle push to go inside but is comfortable once he's in. Overall, Benson is a sweet and affectionate boy. We'll post more as we get to know him.
