ALLIE
May 7, 2009...  Allie is so happy, active, and athletic that my husband and I are convinced that she cannot be 7 years old, more like 4 or 5 at the most.  She loves to run in the yard and play with squeaky toys.  She sleeps on our bed every night.  And she is perfectly behaved, inside and out.  We couldn't ask for a better foster dog!

April 2, 2009...  Allie is doing great!  She is much better with her commands, including sit, down, come, stay, and shake.  She is also trained to stay in the yard off leash and if she starts to wander we just call her and she comes right back.  We are very pleased with how well trained she is!  Our pet sitter always comments about how sweet she is, too.  A couple of weeks ago we all went to the dog park in Wake Forest and she had a blast running with the other dogs!

March 16, 2009...  Allie is such a sweetheart and is doing so well here!  She LOVES to look out the window and survey the neighborhood, and she always has one ear up and one down (so cute!)

March 10, 2009...  Allie has been with us two weeks now and she has truly settled in to our family.  She is best buddies with her foster fur sister Chloe.  I even saw the two of them drinking out of Allie's water dish at the same time today.  She went to the vet for a physical on 2/27/09 and did great!  Her heartworm and fecal were negative and she got all of her vaccines.  She does have some overgrowth of her gums, but eats without difficulty and we are trying some bones and harder treats to help with that.  She weighed 78 lbs, so she's a big girl!  She had to go to the vet again 3/7/09 because she developed a cough the night before and she was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection for which she's on antibiotics and cough medicine, but it doesn't get her down!  Overall Allie is just a big sweetheart that wants to be wherever you are, loves to give kisses, and sleep on the couch.  She also likes squeaky toys!  She is great at the command "sit" and knows "no" very well also.  We are working on "come" and will start trying "down" soon too.

March 5, 2009...  Allie has been with us for a full week now and is doing great.  There has not been one accident in the house, so she is fully houstrained.  And we have only heard her bark once.  She will occasionally growl slightly, and of course she snores like a Boxer, but otherwise she is a quiet girl.  Her foster fur brother is gradually warming up to her, but mostly they just keep a respectful distance from each other.  She loves to sleep on the couch and the bed and is a snuggler.  Her favorite toy is a rubber chicken that squeeks and she loves to rub against the end of the bed and roll on her back.  There's still lots of Boxer spunk in her!  She is spooked by loud noises, cars passing, and men she doesn't know, especially if they are carrying something.  And she had no idea what to think of the snow today!  Her new food seems to agree with her very well and she is eating great.  Our plan is to start working on some training very soon now that she is more comfortable in the house.

February 26, 2009...  Allie is really starting to settle into the household and get used to things, and with that, more of the Boxer personality is coming out.  As you can see by the pictures, she is, as my Dad said, couch trained.  She is becoming much more playful and interested in toys and treats.  And the crate situation is improving by the day.  Today she hardly protested at all going in.  We only put her in the crate during the day when we aren't home.  At night she can roam freely and sleep wherever she wants. We did have one incident between her and her male fur brother, Rollie, the other night but since then there have been no further problems.  She is constantly loving on Chloe, her Boxer fur sister.

She is Boxer stubborn!  She knows the command sit, but doesn't execute all of the time.  She also knows down and come, but again, spotty execution.  Her tricks are shake and give 5.  She walks very well on a leash with very little pulling and listens very well on leash.  We've been using a harness too.

February 23, 2009...  Allie was very excited to get out of the crate this morning!  She has taken a shine to my husband and sat outside the bathroom the whole time while he showered and got ready.  She wasn't really hungry this morning, still too excited I think.  Wherever you are she wants to be too, and she's happy just laying next to you.  Also likes to look out the front window.  She's very good at going outside and walks well on a leash.  She seems to know sit, down, and shake, but we'll have to work on come.  Physically, she's a big girl, though not fat.  Just tall and broad for a female.  She has a couple of small fleshy bumps on her legs, but no other obvious lumps or bumps.  She sits on one hip so may have some hip problems, we'll keep an eye out for that.  Her teeth look somewhat worn down also, so we'll do some soft food and see if she's more excited about that.  She is hardly food motivated at all, which is going to make crate training very difficult.  We're still not sure what really gets her excited.  However, she's just a big sweetheart and so far we have enjoyed having her here!  The cutest thing about her is that one ear sticks up and one flops down.  We're still waiting on her vet records so we can know more about her health.

February 22, 2009...  We picked Allie up and arrived back at our house around 10PM.  She travelled very well in the car and sat in the front seat the whole trip.  She met our two dogs out in the yard first and then came in the house and gave everything and everyone a good sniff.  She has a foster fur sister who is a Boxer named Chloe and a foster fur brother who is a Rottweiller/Border Collie named Rollie.  She did not want to go in the crate, but we managed to get her in there and she slept through the night without a peep.
